Excel for Beginners

This 20-week beginner course on Microsoft Excel aims to provide a solid foundation in Excel for users who have little to no prior experience. Participants will learn to navigate the Excel interface, perform basic to intermediate data manipulation, create and format charts, and use functions and formulas for various tasks. The course is divided into four main sections, each progressively building on the skills learned in the previous weeks. By the end of the course, participants will have the confidence and skills to handle Excel tasks in their personal and professional lives.

  • Understand Excel Interface and Basic Navigation Navigate the Excel interface, including ribbons, toolbars, and worksheets. Understand basic terminology such as cell, range, worksheet, and workbook.
  • Perform Basic Spreadsheet Operations Create, save, and manage Excel workbooks and worksheets. Enter and format data in cells, including text, numbers, and dates.
  • Utilize Basic Formulas and Functions Use basic arithmetic formulas (e.g., addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). Apply common functions such as SUM, AVERAGE, MIN, and MAX.
  • Format Cells and Data Apply basic formatting techniques, including font changes, cell borders, and fill colors. Use number formats to display data as currency, percentages, and dates
  • Organize and Sort Data Sort data in ascending and descending order. Filter data to display only the information you need.
  • Create and Modify Charts Create basic charts (e.g., column, line, pie) to visualize data. Customize chart elements such as titles, labels, and legends.
  • Manage Worksheets and Workbooks Insert, delete, and rename worksheets. Move and copy worksheets within and between workbooks.
  • Use Basic Data Analysis Tools Apply basic conditional formatting to highlight data. Use the AutoSum feature to quickly calculate totals.
  • Print and Share Excel Documents Adjust print settings to fit worksheets on a page. Share workbooks through email or cloud storage.
  • Troubleshoot Basic Excel Issues Identify and correct common errors in formulas. Use the Help feature and other resources to find solutions.
