About me

Professor Fiaz Ahmad completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan, in 2010, followed by an MPhil in Biotechnology from the Pakistan Institute of Engineering & Applied Sciences (PIEAS), Islamabad, in 2014. In recognition of his early research contributions, he received the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan’s Outstanding Research Award/Best Paper Award in 2015.

In 2016, Professor Ahmad was awarded a fully funded Chinese Government Scholarship to pursue his doctoral studies at Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU), Xi’an, China. He completed his PhD with distinction in March 2020, earning several prestigious honors, including the Excellent International Doctoral Student Awards (2017–2019), the Outstanding Doctoral Graduate Student Award (2020), and the Best Paper Award at NewTech’19 in Lisbon, Portugal.

Following his doctoral studies, Dr. Ahmad conducted postdoctoral research at the State Key Laboratory of Hainan University from 2020 to 2022 under the China Postdoctoral Fellowship. In January 2023, he joined Northwestern Polytechnical University as an Associate Professor, where he continues to pursue interdisciplinary research in environmental and microbial biotechnology.

To date, Professor Ahmad has authored 40 peer-reviewed publications, with a cumulative journal Impact Factor exceeding 200, and has secured nine patents. His research has received more than 1,123 citations, with an h-index of 16 and an i10-index of 19. His interdisciplinary research focuses on microbial biotechnology, environmental sustainability, resource recovery, and biomineralization, with particular emphasis on developing innovative solutions at the water–energy–carbon nexus.

Through his research, Professor Ahmad aims to develop scalable and sustainable technologies that contribute to resource recovery, environmental remediation, circular economy principles, and clean energy transitions, addressing emerging global challenges through innovative microbial and biotechnological approaches.
